Funny Animal Holiday Gifts
Some people want a reindeer sweater. Others would rather wear a possum that has given up on winter entirely. This guide is for the second group.
We have three animal designs, and each comes as a tee and a crewneck sweatshirt. They're drawn in a retro style with muted colors, so they look more like a thrift-store find than a loud novelty sweater. That also means they can be worn after the holidays are over.
The possum: Playing Dead Till Spring
A possum lying flat on its back with a bit of holiday cheer around it. It's a winter design, not strictly a Christmas one, so it works from December through February. It's a good gift for anyone who hates the cold or who hibernates between Thanksgiving and New Year's.
The frog: Cocoa Is My Hot Tub
A frog soaking in a mug of hot cocoa like it's at a spa. It's cozy and a little silly, a good fit for the cocoa drinker or the person who's always cold. If you liked this one, there's a Thanksgiving cousin, the gravy boat frog, in our Thanksgiving guide.
The raccoon: I Did The Lights Myself
A raccoon tangled in a string of Christmas lights, proud of its work anyway. This is the one for whoever volunteers to put up the lights every year and somehow ends up wrapped in them.
Tee or sweatshirt?
The tees are printed on Comfort Colors 1717, a heavy garment-dyed cotton shirt that's soft right away. They're a good choice for warmer climates, layering, or someone who runs warm. The sweatshirts are unisex crewnecks and cost more, but they're the better pick for cold weather or a gift that gets worn all winter. Each product page lists its sizes and the price for each size.
Who these work for
- Secret Santa or a white elephant swap: any of the tees. They're funny without being rude.
- The friend who's always cold: the frog sweatshirt.
- The coworker who's "done" with winter: the possum tee or sweatshirt.
- The family lights person: the raccoon, obviously.
When to order for Christmas
Each item is printed after you order it, which takes 2–7 business days, plus the carrier's shipping time. December is the busiest month for printers and carriers, so ordering by about December 7 is a safe target for having it under the tree by December 25.
Shopping for Hanukkah too? See our Hanukkah tees and mugs.
Order-by suggestions (not guarantees): for Thanksgiving (Thu, Nov 26, 2026), order by about Nov 9 to be safe. For the first night of Hanukkah (Fri, Dec 4, 2026), order by about Nov 16. For Christmas (Fri, Dec 25), order by about Dec 7. Carriers get slower in December, so earlier is better.
